X Factor star set for Number One?

Yes, X Factor 2015 champion Louisa Johnson is on course to enter the Top 10 in the UK single’s chart this Friday.

Her brand new single, her first since winning the talent show last December, which features Clean Bandit is currently sitting at Number 5 in the midweek rankings.

‘Tears’ was first performed earlier this week on the live final of Britain’s Got Talent.

It is currently the highest new entry but it seems she will not be able to climb further with Justin Timberlake, Drake, Rihanna and Calvin Harris and Galantis all ahead in the chart climb.

What did you think of Louisa’s performance on BGT? Was it a winning performance?

New Month, New Adventure, New Music

Ok, so technically it is not a new month until tomorrow but I just haven’t got the patience to wait to let you all know what I have been up to this past while.

Pop On Down is like my new baby, I have been thinking about blogging for a while now and this is what it has resulted in, a blog based primarily on music news, new artists (and old of course), reviews, interviews and more. Think of it as your one-stop shop for all your music needs.

So I know you are all wondering, where did the name come from? Pop On Down was decided from sitting around the kitchen table with a cup of tea, laptop infront of me and people throwing ideas around for a great name which was both relaxed as well as representative of what I was going to do. Almost instantly the suggestion was thrown out that we all love a good cup of tea, a chat and hanging out. We all ‘pop on down’ to our parents and friends to discuss the latest news or gossip about whatever we saw on Facebook this week so it fits quite nicely I think. The name also lends itself well to the gig goers among us who are constantly ‘popping on down’ to local and big name gigs.

So why music you ask? Well, why not I say. I have always been a big pop music fan and I am not afraid to admit it. My parents will tell you, I never watched a cartoon as a child, I always just wanted MTV on in the morning and I would be happy. At the age of 3, I was at a Take That concert dancing in the aisles, singing every word and enjoying every minute of it.

Apart from loving listening to music, I have delved into the pop industry in the past as well as the broadcasting and journalism side of things as well. I am not saying I am the Lord of Music or that I know the ins and outs of pop or anything like that really but I do know a good song when I hear it and I am not too bad at writing a few lines either.

Pop On Down will not only bring you the big names in music but we also want to promote new artists from around the world with our artist interviews, reviews and gig guide.

So, now that I have introduced myself and you know a little bit about me and Pop On Down, I really hope you will find my blog interesting and enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it.

Come on and Pop On Down,

Kenneth 😉

Take That’s Best Collaboration EVER?

Could this be the best collaboration 90’s boyband Take That has ever embarked on?

I definitely think it is up there with the great that is Lulu’s ‘Relight My Fire’. This time Gary, Mark and Howard have gone in a completely different direction by bringing in DJ powerhouse duo Sigma.

‘Cry’ is the first single from their re-released ‘III’ album which topped the charts earlier this year and with talks of a full reunion for Take That in 2017 to mark their 25th anniversary, they are certainly still able to produce great music and the video is just as good for the man-band and DJ collective.

Sigma are no strangers to collaborations either with Rita Ora, DJ Fresh, Ella Henderson and Labrinth just a few of the big names they have paired up with.

‘Cry’ is available on all digital platforms now.

Drake And Leona Lewis Do Battle

Drake’s latest single ‘One Dance’ has become the longest reigning No.1 since Leona Lewis.

It is nearly 9 years since Leona Lewis released her debut single after winning the X Factor in 2006 and claiming the longest No.1 with ‘Bleeding Love’. The track lasted 7 weeks at the top spot in the Autumn of 2007 but this weekend she has lost one of her only great records after Drake matched her 7 week record.

Drake has now totted up nearly 100,000 chart sales and this has cemented ‘One Dance’ as the longest reigning No.1 of 2016.

But don’t feel too sorry for Leona just yet as she has landed a HUGE gig. She will star as Grizabella in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Cats’ on Broadway. This great news is tinged with a bit of awkwardness though as she only got the job after Pussycat Doll and returning X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger dropped out. Ouch!

We still love Leona’s music though, here is the track which kicked it off for her:

Ariana Grande is Brits No.1

Ariana Grande has scored her first ever UK Number One album.

Her brand new release ‘Dangerous Woman’ has hit the top spot pipping Drake’s latest offering by just over 500 copies.

This is Ariana’s third studio album and although she won on physical sales, Drake was streamed a lot more with 10,000 sales-equivalent streams. But it wasn’t enough and Ariana claimed the top spot.

Here is the lead single from that album, also entitled ‘Dangerous Woman’.

It’s Your Monday Medley!

Every Monday we are bringing you the 5 hottest new music video’s from around the globe.

First up it is the perfect pop song to get you dancing around the office. After his performance at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest final in Stockholm, Justin Timberlake has shot up the charts around the world with his new song ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’.

Next up we have the undisputed queen of music (at the moment) Adele. Fresh from winning the Top Artist award at the Billboard Music Awards last week, this is a bit different for her with a bit more cool and groove feel to ‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover)’.

Ariana Grande is back with a definite chart smash. The pint-sized pop star brings her new single ‘Into You’ to us just in time for the summer beach parties.

My guilty pleasure this week are X Factor stars Reggie ‘N’ Bollie. They may not have won the 2015 series but this song is a definite winner around the holiday resorts this year. ‘New Girl’ is the first single from the duo’s forthcoming new album.

And my last pick for this Monday is the combination of two of my favourite artists, Kygo and Irish band Kodaline. Here is their terribly catchy new release ‘Raging’.
