Throwback to a good old day every Thursday.

#TBT 20 Years On – Wannabe at No.1

So exactly 20 years ago today, 5 girls who were set to become the biggest girl group ever were about to hit No.1 for the first time.

Scary, Baby, Sporty, Ginger and Posh were unleashed on us in 1996 with their girl power anthem ‘Wannabe’ and 20 years on, it is still one of the biggest pop songs in music history.

The fivesome were rumoured to be making a comeback to mark the 20th anniversary of the single but just last week rumours were confirmed when Emma, Geri and Mel B uploaded a new YouTube video announcing they would be reuniting as a three piece. Can the Spice Girls work as a threesome?

We can now keep up to date with the reunion at and I am still convinced that a full line up reunion will happen next year for maybe just a couple of dates, why would the two boring ones turn down all that cash for a few hours on stage?

For now have a throwback to when you were younger or possibly not even born to this day in 1996 when Wannabe hit the top spot!

#TT: Grease Is The Word!

Last week I was greeted by a grown man (in his 40’s I’d say) and he had NEVER seen possibly the best musical film EVER!

Yes, Grease was a figment of his imagination. He had an idea of the storyline and had heard the songs but never seen the actually film…. WHAT? was my first reaction. Ok, I admit I am a bit obsessed with this film from a dancer and choreographer’s point of view but how could someone who grew up around the time of this film not have seen it?

Let’s go back to this day in 1978 when Grease had just been released in cinema’s worldwide and what producers thought would be a cult film became the biggest musical phenomenon in years. Today started a 9 week run at No.1 in the UK charts for the biggest hit from the movie ‘You’re The One That I Want’.

The music soundtrack is the biggest selling film soundtrack of all time and still enters the charts regularly around he world. The film made icons out of Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta along with some of the lesser known stars including Stockard Channing and stayed at the box office top spot for weeks on end.

If you are one of the VERY few who have not seen this film, check it out TODAY!!! You will not be disappointed, from the music to the story and from the Rydell High surroundings to the car garage where they create the slickest car in film history which actually flies at the end of the film (ok, I ain’t a clue who sanctioned that decision either but let’s overlook that last scene), this is an iconic film that will have you dancing around your sitting room.

38 years later and still a massive song at every party when all the women think they are Sandy and the guys strut it out being Danny, this will live on, and on, and on….. Grease is definitely the word!

#TT: Crazy Frog Strikes AGAIN!

Cast your mind back 11 years …….. can you remember what you were doing?

Your struggling to remember anything about 2005 but there was one thing for sure, you were pestered by pond life. Yes, on this day 11 years ago The Crazy Frog was sitting at No.1 in the UK singles chart. Spending a whole month at the top spot this was not the first we had heard of the little creature.

What started out as a polyphonic ringtone (remember them?) became the most annoying sound EVER after a while. It is the most profitable ringtone in the history of mobile phones, although no one buys ringtones anymore but it’s still a great achievement for a cartoon frog. Once every child and teen had the sound downloaded to their phone (me included on my flip Motorola, they were the iPhone of the time) the creators saw money signs with a single release.

The single became one of the biggest selling of the year and topped charts around the world, however when the creators got greedy releasing further singles including a cover of Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’, no one wanted to know and the Crazy Frog flopped.

But let’s all be grateful, we had a fun childhood and great ringtone because of this guy. Here is the most annoying guilty pleasure EVER:

ThrowbackThursday: Geri QUITS Spice Girls

So every Thursday we will take you back with our throwback to years gone by and artists who were at the top of their game in their heyday.

This exact week 18 years ago, we were all wrapped up in Spice with one dominating girl group everywhere we turned, from pencil cases to dolls and from stickers to photo albums, they had it.

But all wasn’t as it seemed, as Spice Girls fans woke on May 31st 1998 they were left heartbroken as news broke that Geri Halliwell (the Ginger one) had left the band. After just a few years in the band Geri had had enough and bowed out straight after a massive world tour, movie deal and their own branded cereal (WHAT?)

So let’s bring you back to the start, their very first single ‘Wannabe’

This year marks the 20th anniversary of ‘Wannabe’ and although Victoria Beckham is adamant she doesn’t want to be a Spice Girl again, could she really resist throwing on the little black dress just one more time? It gives her an excuse not to smile so why not. I expect we will see a full reunion world tour later this year.

So after the success of their first album, cleverly entitled ‘Spice’, they went on to release their second album, also cleverly named ‘SpiceWorld’ and this was the start of global domination with their own cinema release of the same name. The movie followed them around London on a Union Jack draped bus in their fight to do good and put on a show no matter what. It quickly became a huge success and everyone in the world knew who they were.

‘Spice Up Your Life’ was the lead single from their second album.

It was shortly after this that Geri left the band, causing outcry from girls (and guys). But Geri didn’t wait long before becoming a solo star in her own right, releasing ‘Look At Me’ just months after her departure. The other 4 Spices kept going and released another album which featured a lot of songs seemingly referring to the gap Geri had left, ‘Goodbye’, ‘Viva Forver’ and ‘Holler’, nope wait, definitely not to do with a Ginger girl leaving a band.

Posh, Baby, Scary and Sporty eventually called it a day and all went on to have solo careers in music with varying success. In 2007, they reunited for a world tour and released a charity single that flopped. Don’t charity singles always do well? Yikes! Then their highly acclaimed musical Viva Forever also flopped. Double ouch!

Spice Fever seemed to have left but by 2012 and the London Olympic Games, it was well and truly back with an incredible performance by the reunited five-some. Standing on cars, donned in their trademark designs and miming….. really well I must say though.

So, where does that leave Spice fans? Just a few weeks ago this picture was posted to some of the girls social sites suggesting that they are recording new music and something could be happening later this year. We will have to wait and see.

Surely, they have to mark 20 years of pop perfection and get on stage again? Would a reunion work without Victoria? And are Scary and Sporty friends again? Watch this space!
